Van Hollen to Kickoff Statewide Summer Tour with Roundtable at Fort Meade Alliance with Mikulski

Van Hollen, Mikulski to Host Roundtable with Fort Meade Alliance
Kickoff Statewide Summer Tour to Discuss Strategies to Boost Local Economies, Expand Workforce Training, and Support Our Veterans and Seniors

Kensington, MD — On Monday, June 20, 2016 at 11:45 am Chris Van Hollen and Senator Barbara Mikulski will host a roundtable with the Fort Meade Alliance, an organization that supports the base, regional economic growth, and business opportunities in the area. The roundtable will follow a tour of Fort Meade and a meeting with personnel.

The event will mark the start of Van Hollen’s statewide summer tour, which will highlight his commitment to listen, learn, and work for Maryland families. He will visit all 24 jurisdictions in the state, meeting with workers and business owners, educators, and the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces. He will focus on strategies to boost local economies, expand workforce training, and support our veterans and seniors.

“In this era of divisive politics and partisan obstruction, I believe the most important job of a U.S. Senator is to make sure the government works for our families, not special interests,” said Chris Van Hollen. “That means fighting to grow the economy, invest in education and job training, and protect families from the extreme Tea Party agenda. It also means helping our veterans get the services they need and helping Maryland seniors with their Social Security.”

Building on his neighborhood-based grassroots primary campaign, Chris will keep his focus on expanding opportunities for the middle class, creating good paying jobs, and making college more affordable. His proven track record of getting results and his vision for the future stands in stark contrast to the GOP’s agenda, which fails to invest in our families and our future.

Van Hollen added, “The success of our great state depends on the health of every single area. This summer, I will continue talking with families across Maryland about what is important to them — whether you’re from the Eastern Shore or Western Maryland, Baltimore or the Washington suburbs.”

Chris is no stranger to tough campaigns and is taking nothing for granted. He will take this fight to every part of the state to make sure people know what’s at stake in this important election.
