Kensington, MD — Today the Van Hollen for Senate campaign announced that Chris Van Hollen was endorsed by the Maryland State and District of Columbia AFL-CIO. The Maryland State and District of Columbia AFL-CIO is based in Annapolis and represents workers across Maryland and D.C.
“Chris Van Hollen has proven time and again that he is a fighter for organized labor. Our members know that Chris doesn’t only say the right thing — he gets things done for working families across the state. Chris is the candidate who will continue Senator Mikulski’s effective leadership for Maryland and we’re excited to endorse him to be our next U.S. Senator,” said president Fred Douglas Mason Jr.
“I am honored to have the support of the AFL-CIO,” said Chris Van Hollen. “Across our state and throughout the country, the AFL-CIO fights every day on the side of workers to make the American dream achievable for all. While Republicans are looking to dismantle unions and put the very wealthy before workers, I am committed to working with the the AFL-CIO to grow and strengthen the middle class. When unions are strong our communities are strong, and I will fight every day in the the U.S. Senate to support the working men and women in Maryland and around the nation.”
Maryland labor unions, progressive organizations, and leaders have overwhelmingly decided to support Chris Van Hollen because they believe Chris will focus on finding solutions and getting results for our state — including Maryland SEIU, UFCW 27, and Maryland UAW, as well as progressive groups like the Sierra Club and CASA in Action.
